Survivors' Pension

A public pension for surviving family members who were financially supported, paid when a pension-covered person dies. There is the Basic Survivors' Pension (National Pension) and the Employees' Survivors' Pension. It is not paid unless you apply, so it is easily missed.

  • The deceased's pension — National or Employees' Pension (pension notice / handbook)
  • The deceased's premium payment status (confirm at pension office 0570-05-1165)
  • Family composition — spouse / child's age (covered until the fiscal year-end of turning 18) / parents, etc.
  • The claimant's income last year — under 8.5 million yen? (withholding slip / tax certificate)
  • Your support relationship with the deceased (living together, remittances, etc.)
