High-Cost Medical Expense Benefit

When your out-of-pocket medical cost in one month exceeds the income-based 'self-pay cap,' the excess is refunded by public health insurance. Almost anyone in public insurance may qualify, but many miss the refund without knowing.

判定の前に、以下をご確認・ご用意ください
  • Which public insurance you have (card: workplace insurance / National Health Insurance / late-elderly medical care)
  • Income category ★most important★ — workplace insurance = standard monthly remuneration (payslip/insurer); NHI/late-elderly = taxable income (tax certificate/premium notice). For treatment in Jan–Jul use income from 2 years prior; Aug–Dec, the previous year
  • Your out-of-pocket cost that month (receipts; insured portion only — meals, room upgrades, non-insured excluded)
  • How many times you received this benefit in the past 12 months (for the 'multiple-time' rule)
  • Whether you used the My Number insurance card
